  • Though I include some rare fluorite, the majority of specimens I use in the violet family are amethyst. The popularity of amethyst has made it more mainstream than any of the minerals I work with, which is a two edged sword. On one hand, it is usually more readily available, but as the pockets in Brazil and Uruguay are depleted, pristine specimens are becoming more scarce even as demand for this, the world’s most sought after semi-precious stone, continues to grow.
